Aptiva - 2144/2168 (SL-H) Running CHKDSK on an Aptiva system with OS/2
Applicable to: United States
On systems pre-loaded with OS/2, the DOS CHKDSK command cannot check the drive's integrity while operating in DOS. This is due to some of the directory and file names being too long under OS/2. This is normal and is not a reason for concern.
Please run CHKDSK from OS/2. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Boot on Recovery Diskette #1, then when prompted, switch to Diskette #2.
2. At the Recovery Menu select OS/2 Command Prompt.
3. Once you are at the A:\ prompt, put in Diskette #3.
4. Type in CHKDSK /F C: then hit the <ENTER> key.
5. If any errors are found you will likely receive an error message asking if you wish to write corrections to disk. Select NO by typing in 'NO' and hit the <ENTER> key.
6. If you receive any error messages as to cross linked files you may need to reload your software due to the degree of damage
