Netfinity7000 - Fore Systems ATM adapter PCA-200EPC, NetWare 3.12
Applicable to: United States
Configuration problem:
With a Fore Systems ATM adapter PCA-200EPC installed in a Netfinity 7000 running NetWare 3.12, the symptom exhibited is an unreliable/difficult client connection. This is related to a timing issue between the server adapter's loading its ELAN driver and binding the network protocol to it.
Resolution:
If you bind directly after the ELAN driver has been loaded, as will happen when loading the drivers via the AUTOEXEC.NCF file, all appears to go well but the clients will not attach.
If you enter the ELAN driver and BIND statements manually, then the clients will attach correctly.
To maintain semi-automated installation via AUTOEXEC.NCF file, you can put a 'PAUSE' statement between the ELAN driver load statement and the ELAN/Protocol BIND statement. This procedure still requires manual intervention from the operator, to wait until the ELAN driver is completely loaded before 'hitting a key' to continue from the 'pause' statement. This procedure will allow clients to attach correctly.
