Applicable to: World-Wide
Subject :
Booting to DOS Mode instead of Windows 95 consistantly
We have been seeing lots of machines lately that have been shutdown in MS-DOS mode and can't get out. So far we have seen 3 things that will cause this error. Here they are with their solutions.
1. Dos=single in the config.sys in the root of the drive.
Remove this line from the config.sys and reboot. Then try typeing exit or win /wx.
2. BootGUI=0 in the MSDOS.SYS file.
Set this line to BootGUI=1 and reboot. Then try typeing
exit or win /wx.
3. shell=c:\windows\command\command.com line in the config.sys or autoexec.bat
Remove this line from the autoexec.bat and reboot. Then try typeing exit or win /wx.
4. Hard drive has been compressed
Verify that on the HOST drive, MSDOS.SYS has not been corrupted
