Aptiva - 2139/2153 modem is unable to connect

Aptiva -- Modem is Unable to Connect

Symptom:
A small number of Aptiva 2139 and 2153 systems are unable to make a modem connection when a particular phone line impairment is present.

Solution:
Update the modem driver to the latest level. Follow this link to obtain the latest driver: . You can also use Update Connector to download the latest drivers.

In order to get the machine to make a modem connection in order to download the updated driver, it may be necessary to temporarily install a lower level of modem driver to the system. This driver is located on the Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD in the following directory:

\disk\modem\lt416\country\disk\ltmodem

You should substitute the two-letter abbreviation for your country for "country". (e.g. For the United States use "US".)

To install the drivers perform the following steps:

  1. Open a DOS command prompt.
  2. Change to the CD-ROM drive. (This is normally G:.)
  3. Type "cd \disk\modem\lt416\country\disk\ltmodem" and press enter to change to the directory with the driver.
  4. Type "setup" and press enter to start the driver install program.
  5. Follow the prompts to install the driver.

Once this driver is installed, you should be able to make a modem connection and download the updated driver.
