TP 770X,770Z - External Display appears twice in Windows 98 Device Manager
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
A Plug and Play external monitor appears twice in Windows 98 Device Manager under monitors on ThinkPad 770X and 770Z systems. This only occurs when the ThinkPad is boot for the very first time on the docking station and the external display monitor is attached to the docking station.
CONFIGURATION:
Windows 98, ThinkPad 770 with dual display capabilities, plug and play monitor.
SOLUTION:
1) Do not attach the external plug and play monitor to the dock until after the ThinkPad is fully configured stand alone on an empty dock. Then add the monitor and it will detect and add the external display only once. The ThinkPad's display should appear in Device Manager as Laptop display panel...
2) If you have already established a docking station hardware profile that shows 2 external monitors erroneously and you would like to correct this, it is recommended to use the following procedure to remove the existing docking station hardware profile and create a new one.
