PS/1-Aptiva - What is the MORE command?
Applicable to: World-Wide
The MORE command is issued from the DOS command prompt. When the command is entered, data is read from the standard input device, one screen of data is sent to the monitor and then the screen pauses with the message --More--. You can then press any character key to send another screen of data to the standard output device. This process will continue until all of the input data has been read.
This command, often called a "pipe", is used most often with other commands such as DIR. For example, suppose you wished to do a directory of your fixed disk but the number of files listed was greater than would fit on one screen. You would use the MORE command to prevent the data from scrolling up the screen. After a screen of data has been displayed with the command, you can press a key on the keyboard to display the data one screen at a time.
