Aptiva - Troubleshooting problems that cause long delays at the OS/2 logo display
Applicable to: World-Wide
If you have noticed a long delay (20+ seconds) on your system when the logo is displayed, you can press ALT-F2 when the little square with OS/2 next to it is displayed while booting. If you manage to do it in time, OS/2 will display each driver that it is loading as it loads and you can see which driver is causing the pause. Generally these type of pauses are caused by SCSI or hard drive drivers (like IBM1S506.ADD) going out and looking for devices to recognize.
NOTE: The logo display setting will have no effect on the boot logo; it only controls how long any applications display their logo pages when they load.
ALSO: If you have an extremely long delay (like 2 minutes), the problem is most likely the IBMIDECD.FLT file in the original issue of OS/2. If you REM out (Type REM in front of a specific line in the config.sys file. This will tell the system to overlook that particular line.), the line in the config.sys that references it, your boot time will come down to about 35-40 seconds, but you will lose the use of your CD-ROM drive. However, the IBM FIXPACK 17 solves that problem. Or, if you do not want to load all of FIXPACK 17, the PJ19409 package on OS2CSD(OS/2 Corrective Service Diskette) has the latest IDECDROM.FLT and IBM1S506.ADD pair.
