Aptiva - How to obtain and install VESA BIOS extensions for 2134 and
2176-Cxx systems with ATI Video Chipset

Applicable to: World-Wide

Some software applications, most notably games, may require that you install VESA BIOS extensions before the software will operate properly. The information in this document applies to Aptiva C series systems with the following type designations: C23, C33, C35, C55, C56, C65, C66, C67, C6V, C6Y, C6Z, C73, C76, and C77.

Obtaining the VESA BIOS drivers:
The VESA BIOS drivers can be downloaded by directing your web browser to the following URL:http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/3drageI-VT.html

You will need to download the 64VBE210.EXE file to a temporary directory on your hard disk. This file contains the VESA BIOS TSR. Installation and usage instructions for 64VBE210.EXE are located in the 64VBE210.TXT file, which is available from the same URL.

Installing the VESA BIOS extensions:
1. Click "Start" -> "Programs" -> "MS-DOS Prompt". A DOS window will open. At the DOS prompt, change to the directory that contains the 64VBE210.EXE file. For example, if you saved this file in a directory called TEMP, the command to change to that directory would be cd\temp.

2. The DOS prompt will change to reflect the name of the new directory. At this prompt, type 64VBE210.EXE and press "Enter". The VESA BIOS files will be extracted to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\VESATSR.

3. Change to the VESATSR directory by typing cd\ati\support\vesatsr, and pressing "Enter".

4. At the new DOS prompt, type "M64VBE", and press "Enter".

5. You can now start your DOS applications that require VESA support. Note that you will need to repeat the previous two steps each time you need to start a DOS application that requires VESA support. If you use the M64VBE.COM program frequently, you may wish to add the line c:\ati\support\vesatsr\m64vbe.com to the end of your DOSSTART.BAT file.

Note: The file names and version numbers are subject to change. Refer the the file's "Readme" for more information.
