Aptiva - How to manually set the Mwave Discriminator to determine whether the call is fax or voice

Applicable to: World-Wide

The Mwave Discriminator application decides whether the incoming call is a fax, voice or modem call.

Ideally the recognition of faxes and voice calls is automatic, and calls are routed to the appropriate place. However, some older fax machines are not recognized as a fax because they do not send a zero tone. You can use the Discriminator application to manually route calls and to configure the default settings for your system.

Adding the Discriminator Icon to the Windows Desktop

The Discriminator application does not have an icon on the Windows desktop.

Manually Routing Calls

You can use the Discriminator to manually route calls to either the fax or voice function as long as you have both the fax and message feature running. On the Discriminator pulldown menu, the To command allows you to tell the modem manually that the incoming call is a fax, voice or modem call. The modem will then route the call to the proper place.

Setting the Defaults

There is also a feature under the Discriminator Options that will change the system defaults.
