Aptiva - 2144/2168 How to install Aptiva Communications Center Update for OS2/Windows 3.1 Systems

This document provides instructions on how to install the updated version of the Aptiva Communications Center on your IBM Aptiva computer with OS/2 and Windows 3.1. The information in this document applies only to Mxx series Aptiva systems with an OS2/Windows 3.1 preload.
Note: Before following the procedure described below, you must obtain the following 4 files, and copy them to your hard drive: ACCOS2_1.EXE, ACCOS2_2.EXE, ACCOS2_3.EXE, and ACCOS2_4.EXE. You can obtain these files from the IBM BBS or FTP sites, or the IBM Aptiva Web page at http://www.pc.ibm.com/support.
The Communications Center update needs to be run from OS/2. If you are using Windows 3.1, double-click the "OS/2" program group in the Windows Program Manager, and then double-click the "Reboot to OS/2 Warp" icon. This will restart your system using the OS/2 Warp operating system.
Creating the Communications Center installation diskettes:
1. From the OS/2 desktop, double-click the "OS/2 System" object. Double-click the "Command Prompts" folder, and then double click the "OS/2 Window" icon. From the OS/2 command prompt, change to the directory that contains the ACCOS2 files.
2. From this directory, type "accos2_1", and press "Enter". A message will appear prompting you to insert a blank diskette in drive A, and press "Enter" to extract the files. Put a floppy diskette in the A drive, and press "Enter". It will take about 2 minutes while the installation files are copied to the diskette. When the copy operation is complete, remove the diskette from drive A and label it " Installation Disk #1".
3. Press "N" to answer No when asked if you would like to make another copy of the diskette. The command prompt will reappear. Repeat the previous step for each of the 3 remaining ACCOS2 files. Type "accos2_2" to create diskette #2, and "accos2_3" to create diskette #3, etc.
4. When you are finished, you will have a set of 4 separate installation diskettes.
Installing the Communications Center update:
1. Insert diskette #1 into the floppy drive, and, at the OS/2 command prompt, type "a:\setup", and press "Enter".
2. A Win/OS2 session will be started, and the Communications Center installation program will initialize. Click "Next" on the "Welcome" screen that appears.
3. Click "Next" again on the "Select Program Location" screen that follows. The Communications Center files will begin copying to the hard disk. You will be prompted to insert diskettes 2, 3, and 4 as they are needed.
4. When the copy operation is complete, a "Restart Windows" message box will appear stating that you should restart Windows before using the Communications Center. Click the radio button labeled "Yes, I want to restart my computer now", and then click "OK".
5. The Win/OS2 session will close, returning you to the OS/2 desktop. You will need to restart OS/2 before using the updated Communications Center.
