Aptiva - 2159 Mwave driver reinstallation procedure

Applicable to: United States, Canada

US Only

Disclaimer:
1. This document is for models 2159 Service Level A machines with the Mwave Soundcard ONLY. This document does not apply to 2159Sxx systems which have been updated using the 20ED level Mwave upgrade files available on IBM's website.

2. This procedure should only be used with the latest revision of the Diagnostic CD. Presently the latest CD can be identified as part number 76H4686 and having a clear center hub. If the service CD has a Blue hub (76H1560) the software should not be used because damaged software may result.

If both of the above conditions are true following the steps below. If the Diagnostic CD's hub is BLUE then order a replacement CD by contacting the HelpCenter and once the CD arrives, continue with the steps below. Again, DO NOT ATTEMPT USING THE BLUE HUB P/N 76H1560 CD for this procedure!!

2. CLICK the SHOW INSTALLED PROGRAM'S TAB

8. A message will appear saying that Mwave has been removed from the system. CLICK "OK".
9. A message will appear saying "If you are removing the Mwave Card from your system select "Yes". If you are reinstalling Mwave code, select "No". ALWAYS CLICK NO.
10. An Information Window will appear and say that the computer needs to be restarted. SELECT "OK".
11. The computer will restart (there is no need to remove the CD at this time.)
12. A window will appear after the computer restarts that states new hardware has been found and what driver should be installed. SELECT DRIVER ON DISK PROVIDED MY MANUFACTURER and then CLICK "OK".
13. The computer will then prompt you to "Insert The Manufacturer Disk" into the computer. CLICK "BROWSE".

21. The computer will reboot.
22. The Mwave installation screen will appear again and install icons into the Mwave Program Group. Then a message will display that the installation was successful. CLICK OK.
23. There may be windows minimized on the Start Bar at the bottom of the screen. If there are, click on each of these one at a time, and then close them.

Final Step- Reinstall MIDI Samples:

NOTE: The MIDI sample icon will not move from the 'Un-installed Programs' list to the 'Installed Programs' list. This is nothing but a cosmetic problem and does not affect the functionality of the machine. Use update connector regularly and once a fix is available, it will automatically correct the problem.
