Smart Card Security Kit - No prompt received for installing device drivers

Applicable to: World-Wide

Problem:
Inserting the reader will not prompt for the drivers to be loaded.

Environment:

Explanation:
If you have Cardsoft installed on you system, it may not allow the PCMCIA reader to be recognized as Plug and Play device and inserting the reader will not prompt for the drivers to be loaded.

Solution:
To correct this:

  1. Click Start, Programs, Cardworks, Cardwizard.
  2. A warning will pop up that the Gemplus GPR400 is not recognized.
  3. Right click on the card description box, choose Properties.
  4. Click the Drivers tab.
  5. Put a check in the Change Card Driver box.
  6. Change the card driver from Use Cardsoft Mode to Use Plug and Play Mode.
  7. Remove the check from Change Card Driver and click OK.
  8. A prompt will open to Remove and Reinsert the PCMCIA Card for the changes to take effect.
  9. Click OK, remove the PCMCIA reader, and reinsert.
  10. Plug and Play will now take over and prompt for the driver, proceed with the install directions.
