Aptiva - SuperStor/DS and DOS Partitions
Applicable to: United States
If you have multiple partitions set up on your hard drive, there are no problems with compressing one or more of the partitions and leaving the other partition(s) uncompressed.
Note that it may be desirable to use SuperStor in a manner that will produce the same result without having to set up separate partitions on the disk. That is, start up SSTOR, select PREPARE, and then select the Compress Free Space Only option. You can then select the amount of free space on the current drive that you wish to compress, and SSTOR will create that space and allow you to assign a drive letter to it.
Using this method, you can assign a specific drive letter to the newly created compressed drive, rather than having it assigned in sequence by DOS if you had partitioned the hard drive with the FDISK command. Also, by compressing the free space on the drive, you will be able to use the SSUTIL compression utilities to check for errors and fragmentation levels.
