Question:
How can I correct a "no-dialtone error" when trying to dial the Aptiva Mwave modem in Windows 95?
Answer:
The Mwave modem sends a signal out to detect a dial tone. If your particular phone system does not operate within a certain frequency range, the Mwave may return an error, i.e. No DialTone. There is a way to circumvent this by telling the Mwave to dial without performing the frequency test.
1. Click on "START", choose "SETTINGS" and select "CONTROL PANEL".
2. Double-click on "MODEMS".
3. Make sure the "MWAVE" is highlighted and select "PROPERTIES".
4. Click on the "CONNECTION" tab at the top of the new window.
5. Click on the "ADVANCED" button.
6. Now, type X3 in the "EXTRA SETTINGS" text box.
7. Click "OK" and close all windows.
