PS/1 - How do I install a printer driver in Windows 3.0?
Applicable to: United States
Most of the printer drivers provided with Windows work for more than one printer model. This means that you must install and configure the settings for your specific printer model. Before you try to print, complete all of the steps in the following installation procedure:
1) Choose the Printers icon from Control Panel. (Control Panel is located in the Main Group of Program Manager.)
2) Choose Add Printer from the Printers dialog box.
3) Select the name of the printer model you want to install.
4) Choose Install.
5) Follow the dialog box instructions about inserting the printer-driver disk (or if prompted, specifying the path to the driver) and choose OK.
6) Choose Configure from the Printers dialog box.
7) Select the port used by the printer you are installing.
8) Choose Setup.
9) Select the printer model you want to use and change the standard settings to match your needs.
10) Choose OK three times to return to Control Panel.

NOTE: Do not try to copy files directly from the disks that came with Windows. All the files on the Windows disks are in a compressed format that must be converted before the files can be used by Windows. Control Panel makes the printer driver files usable.
