Aptiva - "Couldn't Open Port" or "The Modem Properties Cannot be
Displayed" Error

Specific Error Codes:
"Couldn't Open Port" & "The modem properties cannot be displayed because the modem information is corrupt."

Complete Problem Description:
If AT&T WinModem is removed from device manager and you perform a software recovery or use APTRSTOR to recover the C:\WINDOWS\INF\ATTMODEM.INF and C:\WINDOWS\INF\ATTWAVE.INF files from the Aptiva Product Recovery CD (P/N 76H3725) the system will then list the following on the Diagnostics tab of the Modems. Problem:
If AT&T WinModem is removed from device manager and you perform a software recovery or use APTRSTOR to recovery the C:\WINDOWS\INF\ATTMODEM.INF and C:\WINDOWS\INF\ATTWAVE.INF files from the Aptiva Product Recovery CD (P/N 76H3725) the system will then list the following on the Diagnostics tab of the Modems

Solution:
If the files ATTMODEM.INF and ATTWAVE.INF are copied over from the \DISK\ATTMODEM\ATTMODEM folder on the Diagnostics and Utilities CD (P/N 76H3721) to the C:\WINDOWS\INF folder and all driver entries for the AT&T WinModem are removed from Device Manager and the system is rebooted then the drivers will install properly and the modem will function normally.
