Aptiva - Mwave produces a clicking sound playing back WAV files in Windows 95
Applicable to: United States
If Windows 95 recording and playback sample rate is set to either radio or telephone quality, clicking sounds will be produced in WAV files.
Windows 95 has means of adjusting the recording and playback levels. To correct the problem do the following:
1) Click on Start
2) Go to Settings
3) Click on Control Panel
4) Then go into "Multimedia"
5) Then look on the lower section of the screen.
6) Locate a dropdown box titled "Preferred device" This should read "MWAVE Wave Audio Driver"
7) Next, look in the "Preferred quality" box. This setting should read "CD Quality". There is no need and it is not recommended to click the Customize button.
8) Next, click the check box in the lower left that says Use Preferred devices only.
9) Next, click Apply.
10) Then Click OK.
11) Restart the computer. WAV Sounds will now playback and record without clicking.
