Aptiva - 2140-LQ4/5 Stuck in Safe Mode

If the machine does not boot into normal mode, but does boot into safe mode, the most common reason is because of extra software loaded. This machine comes preloaded with directx5. When extra software is loaded that comes with direcxt5 it can sometimes load the different version over the top which can cause the machine to not start in normal mode. In this case:

1. Restart the machine
2. You will see an IBM Aptiva screen. When this disappears, a black screen will appear with "Starting Windows 95" at the top. As soon as you see this, hit the F8 key. This should bring up the Windows 95 Start up Menu.
3. Choose "Command Prompt Only".
4. Type "cd redist"
5. Type "Fixdx5.bat"
6. Restart
