Crossbrand - Adding a program to the Start menu in Windows 95
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
Customer has just installed a new application and wants to be able to choose it off the Program Menu (START button), rather than use Windows Explorer to find it and execute it.
Problem Isolation Aid:
None
Fix:
It is a requirement for the customer to know the name of the directory into which the application was installed and know the executable files name.
1. Install the application (if this has been done).
2. Click on the Taskbar with the right mouse button.
3. Click on Properties with the left mouse button.
4 Click on START MENU PROGRAMS tab with the left mouse button.
5. Click on ADD with the left mouse button.
6. Choose BROWSE.
7. Find the installed applications directory name and double-click on it with the left mouse button.
8. Find the executable file's name and double-click on it with the left mouse button.
9. Click on NEXT.
10. Choose where in the menu, you want the application to go and click on that folder once (Example, AptivaWare). Click on NEXT, then give it a name and click on FINISH (or press Enter). Or, for creating a new folder, click on NEW FOLDER with the left mouse button and give the new folder a name. Press Enter and then name the ShortCut (the folder and the shortcut can have the same name). Click on FINISH (or press Enter).
11. If required, choose an icon, then double-click on it with the left mouse button (or choose FINISH).
You are now done. To start the application, simply find it in your Start Menu and double-click on the icon.
