If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with 3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users. If not, continue with 4.0 Detailed installation instructions.

3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
1. Ensure the current machine BIOS is flashed on the server. (Diskettes listed in section 1.0)

2. Configure Micro Channel adapters with the Reference disk as necessary. (See section 4.2)

3. Configure the Adaptec controller. Extended BIOS translation must be enabled. Low level format the drive after setting up the adapter.

4. Boot from the disks and install OS/2 normally.

4.0 Detailed installation instructions
Please follow each section carefully and in order:

4.1 Setting up the BIOS
Note: Follow the on screen directions on the following disk operations:

Boot to the BIOS upgrade diskette (listed in section 1.0) and flash the system to revision 29A.

4.2 Running the Micro Channel Reference Disk
Note: If no Micro Channel cards are installed, there is no need to run the Reference Disk. However if a Micro Channel card is added, a 00165 configuration error will occur on boot and the system will go into the CMOS configuration menu:

1. CMOS will redisplay the 00165 error. Select to continue. Another error occurs, continue again. You are now at the main CMOS menu. Select Micro Channel Configuration. CMOS now prompts for the Reference Disk (place it in the floppy drive). The system will now reboot to the Reference Disk.

2. Error 00165 reoccurs. Select Y to run Automatic Configuration when prompted. If the Reference Disk does not have an Adapter Description File (ADF) for your hardware, it will prompt for the option disk. When Automatic Configuration is complete, the Reference disk menu can be used to inspect the settings. Verify your network cards are set to the proper speed if they are adjustable in the Reference Disk.

4.3 Setting up the Adaptec SCSI controller and drives
Note: For open bay models or any SCSI chain setup issues, download Faxback document # 33050. (In the U.S. the phone number is 800-426-3395.)

1. Boot the server and press Ctrl A when prompted on the screen to enter SCSI Select.

2. Select Configure/View Host Adapter Settings.

3. Press F6 to restore defaults. Select Yes to reset all options to default. Open SCSI device configuration, on the lines which say Send Start Unit Command set all IDs for active hard disks to Yes.

4. Press Esc twice. Say Yes to save any changes which are made.

5. Select SCSI Disk Utilities (A SCSI bus scan should occur).

6. For each hard drive that appears in the list perform the following:
a. Highlight the drive.
b. Select Format Disk. (Note: A status bar does not appear. Allow to run until complete.)

4.4 Installing the NOS
1. Boot off the OS/2 Warp Server Installation Diskette.

2. When prompted, insert OS/2 Warp Server Diskette #1.

3. Follow the on screen instructions until the installation choices screen appears. Select Advanced Installation from the list.

4. Select option 2, specify a different drive or partition.

5. When FDISK appears, Disk 1 should be highlighted. Press Enter within the freespace. Select create partition from the partition menu. Enter the desired size (recommended 2000MB or less). Define the partition as primary partition.

6. With the primary partition highlighted, press Enter again and select set installable from the partition menu. Type the desired name for the new partition (example: WarpServ). Press F3 to exit, then F3 to save and exit. Follow the on screen instructions to reboot the server.

7. You will now repeat steps 1-3. After choosing Advanced installation choose Accept the drive.

8. Select option 1, High performance file system. Allow the installation partition to be formatted.

9. The system files will be loaded onto the hard disk.

10. When the transfer completes, a screen appears asking you to remove the diskette. Remove the diskette and reboot the system.

11. When the system configuration window appears, click OK to accept the defaults and continue installation.

12. Follow on screen instructions for installation until file copy begins. After the file copy the system automatically reboots.

13. The Warp Server installation will continue to copy files, and will again reboot the system automatically.

Appendix A: Installing OS/2 Fixpack 32
Note: If your ServerGuide does not have a Fixpack CD or you have no ServerGuide, call 1-800-426-7282 for an upgrade (proof of IBM server purchase required). Otherwise, refer to IBM Personal Software Product's web site at http://ps.software.ibm.com to download the latest fixpacks (follow their instructions for installing these packages).

1. Insert the ServerGuide CD labeled Fixpack in the CD ROM. Open an OS/2 command prompt and change into the \OS2 directory. Run fixpinst.

2. Choose the appropriate language by number and press Enter.

3. A graphical window appears. Click OK. The system is now inspected.

4. Ensure all serviceable components are highlighted. An Archive path needs to be entered to back up existing files for each component. Each component line requires its own entered archive directory.

Note: The graphical upgrade program does not create these directories. It is looking for them to already be on the hard drive. Open a command prompt and create them using the MKDIR command. Example: MKDIR C:\Archive\Multimedia for the multimedia component - when the directory is created, enter C:\Archive\Multimedia in the archive path in the graphical program. Now it will accept the directory and continue when Service is clicked.

5. Follow the on screen directions. Instruct the program to overwrite (continue) for any file name or driver it questions. After file copy is complete, shut down OS/2 and reboot. After booting, the system unlocks locked files. The fixpack installation is now complete.
