Aptiva - How to restore c:\windows\system\webster.ocx

Note: If, when opening the Update Connector, you receive the message, ''Run-time Error 30137, Error loading from file", it is likely that the "webster.ocx" file is corrupt or missing and needs to be restored. Before restoring files from the Aptiva Product Recovery CD on certain Aptivas, it is necessary that the program file, "restore.exe" be available.

To Obtain "Restore.exe" for 2159 systems:
Before restoring files from the Aptiva Product Recovery CD, it is necessary that the program file, "RESTORE.EXE" is in the root directory of C: on the hard drive. If this file is not found, it must first be downloaded from the IBM BBS; (919) 517-0001, or from the Aptiva file area at ftp://204.146.167.81/pub/pccbbs/aptiva/aptrstor.exe. This file is run from your hard drive an expands files to a floppy disc. Then in the A: directory, type "GO", and press "Enter" key. The necessary files will be installed onto your hard drive. When it is determined that RESTORE.EXE is installed to the C: drive, Continue to the next step.

To restore "webster.ocx" on 2136, 2137,& 2159 systems:
1. Click on "Start", "Shut Down", "Restart the Computer in MS DOS mode?". Click on "Yes" button.

2. At the "C:\WINDOWS>" prompt, type "cd\" and press the "Enter" key.

3. Insert the "Product Recovery CD" that came with your system into the CD-ROM drive.

4. At the "C:\>" prompt, type, "restore windows\system\webster.ocx" and press "Enter" key. Make sure that there is a space between "restore" and "windows". This procedure searches the compressed ZIP files on the Aptiva Recovery CD and expands the specified one to your hard drive. If you see the message "Pkunzip (E11) No files found" then check spelling and retry the procedure. When the activity on the screen is completed, remove the CD and restart the computer.

To restore "webster.ocx" on 2138, 2139, 2153, 2161 & 2162 Series:
1. Click on "Start", "Shut Down", "Restart the Computer in MS DOS mode?". Click on "Yes" button.

2. At the "C:\WINDOWS>" prompt, type "g:" and press "Enter" key.

3. Insert the "Product Recovery CD" that came with your system into the CD-ROM drive. When the CD-ROM light goes out, type "cd recovery" and press "Enter" key. Type "cd us" and press "Enter" key.

4. At the "G:\recovery\us\>" prompt, type "restore windows\system\webster.ocx" and press "Enter" key. Make sure that there is a space between "restore" and "windows". This procedure searches the compressed ZIP files on the Aptiva Recovery CD and expands the specified file to your hard drive. If you see the message "Pkunzip (E11) No files found" then check spelling and retry the procedure.

5. When the activity on the screen is completed, remove the CD and restart the computer. (If you plan on restoring other files in the future, you may optionally choose to copy "restore.exe" and "restorus.scr" from the CD to the "C:>\" drive and run it from there).

To restore "webster.ocx" on 2140 & 2142 Series:
1. Make sure your computer is turned ON.

2. Insert the "IBM Aptiva Product Recovery" CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.

3. Shut down the operating system and turn off your computer. Wait for the power light to turn OFF.

4. Turn ON your computer.

5. When you see the prompt "Do you wish to continue (Y/N)?" press "Y" and "Enter".

6. When you see the prompt "Do you accept these terms and conditions (Y/N)?" press "Y" and "Enter".

7. When you see the "Aptiva Recovery Utilities" main menu, select "Recover Selected Files".

8. From the "Recover Selected Files" menu, select "Specify a file or directory".

9. When you see the prompt "Specify the file or directory you wish to recover:" type: "c:\windows\system\webster.ocx".

10. When you see the prompt "Is this correct (Y/N)?" press "Y".

11. When the activity on the screen is completed, remove the CD and the restart computer.
