TP 760ED,SelectaDock II - configuring Windows NT Serial and Infrared with multiple configuration setup

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
If using ThinkPad Configuration features One Touch Buttons (Personal and Office) to setup 2 hardware configurations.
One to have the serial port enabled/and the IR port disabled. The second to have the serial port disabled and the IR port enabled.
The SERIAL port is lost every time the system is DOCKED. ThinkPad Utilities reports that the Serial is on COM1, but Windows NT Diagnostics - Resources reports no Serial port and the port is unusable.

CONFIGURATION:

Operating System: Windows NT 4.0 w/Service Pack 3

SOLUTION:
Prepare 2 CMOS setups (H/W points) using Thinkpad Configuration Utility as described in the SYMPTOM section above.

1 Personal (One Touch Setup button)
default setup:
IR is enabled as COM1
Serial Port is disabled.

2 Office (One Touch Setup button)
COM1 related setup is modified from default
IR is disabled.
Serial Port is enabled as COM1.

This solution may apply to other ThinkPad / Docking combinations. The above configuration was the one tested.
