G72 17" FST Color Monitors - Product Overview

Applicable to: World-Wide

General Information
This new monitor features a 17-inch FST CRT with a viewable image size of 15.7 inches (399 mm), incorporating a 0.28 mm dot pitch. A maximum horizontal frequency of 69kHz provides flicker-free opertion at an optimum 1024 x 768 pels at up to 85Hz non-interlaced with a maximum addressability of 1280 x 1024 pels. This monitor supports a wide range of display modes and attaches to and operates with many IBM and equivalent non-IBM PC systems. Due to the microprocessor-controlled, multi-frequency operation of the monitor, you can change, replace, or upgrade most system units without replacing the monitor. Because the G72 monitor monitor runs most standard VGA, SVGA, and XGA applications without modification, the additional expenses associated with program alterations or in retraining staff are minimized. The G72 monitor features Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Data Channel (DDC) capability for Plug and Play and asset tracking when the attaching system unit's hardware and software is DDC-enabled. It also has a power management capability to meet the power consumption requirements of both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) "Energy Star" and Swedish National Board for Industrial and Technical Development (NUTEK). The G72 monitor supports the timings for the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 85Hz for non-interlaced refresh rate display modes for 640 x 480, 800 x 600, and 1024 x 768 addressabilities. Appropriate graphics adapter hardware and software must be installed in the attaching system unit. The G72 monitor incorporates a universal power supply, providing user flexibility and worldwide operation. The large viewable screen size makes this monitor ideal for end users who demand optimal readability when using windows or any high data content applications.

Key Prerequisites:
The G72 monitor operates with many IBM and equivalent non-IBM PC systems and the IBM InfoWindow II 3483, 3488-V, and 3489 Modular Display Stations. Most VGA, SVGA, and XGA applications will run without modification.

The G72 monitor provides excellent text and graphics performance. Features of this value performer include :

Hardware Requirements:
The IBM G72 Color Monitor is designed to operate with system units or graphic adapters that generate a video output signal that falls within the specifications below:

Note: Horizontal and vertical sync signal timings are critical in order to achieve acceptable screen images. As a consequence, support for all possible variations in H/V sync timings for any display mode cannot be stated.

National Language Support for Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe/Middle East/Africa, Latin America is a function of the graphic adapter in the system unit and the application or support software.

Software Requirements:
The IBM G72 Color Monitor features factory-preset and user-settable display modes. The actual display modes that are used are a function of the attaching system unit, its operating system, and application software.

The factory-preset modes cannot be overwritten, but any of them can be adjusted to personal choice. The new settings are automatically stored in one of the user locations and are recalled each time that mode is used. The factory settings for the mode in use, if any, can be restored by operating the Geometry Reset control.

It may be necessary to make some adjustments to the displayed picture to compensate for variations in video signal timings. The user controls can be used to make these adjustments.

Compatibility:
The monitor is supplied with an attached video signal cable. This cable has the same 15-Pin, D-shell video connector for system unit connection as previous IBM monitors.

Supported systems:
The monitor has been tested for compatibility with the following IBM PC systems:

Note: If the signal cable adapter (p/n 96G1999) is not used, this mode can be supported at 60Hz refresh rate. The mode will not be ISO compliant, and power management will not function.

The monitor have been tested for compatability with the following IBM Network Stations:
8361-100 (Ethernet)
8361-200 (Token-Ring)

A signal cable adapter, part number 96G1999 is required to permit attachment to 3483, 3488-V, and 3489 Modular Display Stations.

Limitations:
Not all available display modes run at the high refresh rates necessary for flicker-free performance. Display modes at lower refresh rates are available for compatibility with older graphics adapters and system units.

Supported display modes are a function of the attaching system unit. The full range of display modes available with these monitors may not be available or supported with all combinations of system units, their operating systems, and application software.

Horizontal and vertical sync signal timings are critical in order achieve acceptable screen images. As a consequence, support for all possible variations in H/V sync timings for any display mode cannot be stated.

The number of colors shown in any display mode is not limited by the monitor but depends upon the capabilities of the adapter the monitor is attached to.

The power management function is invoked only after initiating signals are received from the attached system unit and/or graphics adapter. The method used to implement power management follows the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Power Management Signalling (DPMS) standard. This standard must also be implemented in the attaching system unit and/or graphics adapter for monitor power management to be effective.

Implementation of monitor Plug and Play follows the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Data Channel (DDC) standard. This standard must also be implemented in the attaching system unit hardware and software to be effective.

Not all system units are DDC-enabled. In this situation, the user is required to perform the configuration necessary to obtain optimum performance from the system/graphic adapter/monitor combination.

Cable Orders:
A video signal cable is supplied. It is 1.8 meters (6 ft) long with a 15-pin, mini D-shell connector.

Other: None
