  1. Make sure the cdrom in inserted in the slot and that you are at the Windows 95 Desktop screen.
  2. Right click on My Computer - Properties - Device Manager.
  3. Double click on the CD-ROM line.
  4. Click once on the CD400 line.

  6. Double click on the CD-ROM Controller.
  7. Click once on the CD400 line.
  8. Click on REMOVE. Answer yes to the question of removing the driver.
  9. Close all windows.
  10. Double click on My Computer - C Drive - Windows. You should see an INF Folder. (If not seen, click on VIEW - Options - VIEW again - Show all Files - Apply - OK. You should see the INF Folder, and then need to double click on the INF Folder).
  11. Find the OEMnn.INF files (Where the nn is a number from 01 to 20). Find the highest number file. Double click on the file. Look in the file for the Manafacturer line (Should be located on the screen). If the line states IBM-CD400 then close the file and Delete it. If not found, close the file and goto the next lowest numbered file. Please do this to ALL the OEM files, as the file is created several times in some instances.
  12. After all the OEM files for the CD-400 have been removed, close all Windows.
  13. Remove the card from the slot.
  14. Restart the computer with NO CARDS in the slots.
  15. After the computer is back up and you are at the Main Desktop, insert the CDROM card into the bottom slot. Make sure the drive has POWER, and proceed to POWER-ON the drive. Windows 95 will build a new list. (If Win95 does not Build the list, Repeat steps 1) thru 14). Something was not completed correctly).
  16. After the list is built, Windows will prompt you for the driver diskette. Insert the diskette into the floppy drive and click OK. Click OK again for the location of the diskette. After Windows loads the driver it will prompt you to shutdown and restart. Complete the shutdown, and restart the system.
  17. If this is the no-sound version of the drive (1969008 4X PCMCIA CD-ROM Drive) you should have a CD-ROM icon in My Computer. Check the drive to make sure that it functions properly. (Place a DATA CD in the drive and see if the CD can be read). If you are able to read the CD, you are now finish.
  18. If this is the sound version of the drive (1969009 4X Stereo PCMCIA CD-ROM Drive), you will be prompt to load the drivers for the sound part of the card. You will have to reboot the system several times to load all the drivers for sound and the joystick. After all the drivers have loaded, you should have sound and also have a CD ROM icon in My Computer.
  19. If the above steps fail to work, look for other problems, such as loose cable connections, no power to the drive, incorrect type of CD (Audio vs Data), conflict with an IRQ, no free IRQs or any other troubleshooting issues.
