Network Station - Configuring 3270 terminal emulation through an SNA server
Applicable to: World-Wide
This document describes a solution to 3270 terminal emulation issues through an SNA server on Network Station.
SYMPTOM:
By default, the Network Station will try to connect to the SNA server on port 23 .
SOLUTION:
The port number that the SNA server is listening on for Telnet connections must be supplied as part of the command that is starting the Network Station 3270 terminal emulator.
CONFIGURATION:
The option is -port nnnn , the command would appear as: ns3270 -port nnnn hostname . For NSM servers, this option is included in the NSM browser tool used for configuration.
NS3270 supports the following terminal types and corresponding screen sizes:
Mod 2 (3278-2-E) - 24 x 80
Mod 3 (3278-3-E) - 32 x 80 (this is the default terminal type)
Mod 4 (3278-4-E) - 43 x 80
Mod 5 (3278-5-E) - 27 x 132
Many TN3270 emulators are using 3278-2 as their default terminal type, which is the default terminal type that the SNA server expects. The terminal types specified by NS3270 have not been configured in the SNA server. Also, in most cases, none of the -E terminal types have been defined on the SNA server. The terminal type that you wish to use for NS3270 will need to be defined on the SNA server. There is no method to change the terminal types within NS3270. Define the appropriate terminal type in SNA server.
