Aptiva - 2144/2168 (SL-C) Errors in Windows for Workgroups
Applicable to: United States
After the installation has completed a message appears that WFW did not like two device files in system.ini. Those are INTI13BM.386 and WDCTLIBM.386. WFW did not work unless one deletes those files. They deleted them and now WFW works OK.
These files are IBM's versions of the Windows 386 mode disk drivers. The IBM versions support IDE disks >528 MB and also perform 32-bit data transfers; the Microsoft versions only support disks up to 528 MB and do 16-bit data transfers.
The problem is that WFW is installing the DEFAULT Windows disk drivers; therefore, there are two sets of drivers
now trying to control the disks. If you see the following statements in SYSTEM.INI, this is the problem:
device=*WDCTRL
device=*INT13
If you edit these statements to:
device=WDCTLIBM.386
device=INT13IBM.386
Then restores the original IBM configuration.
NOTE: Support for non-preloaded operating systems is not covered under Warranty. Charges for support, may result, and support may not be available, in some circumstances.
