Aptiva - Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Desktop Customization issues
Applicable to: World-Wide, World-Wide
Symptoms:
After user downloads Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 4.0 from website, animated icons will disappear when active desktop is active and the user re-enables animated icons in Aptiva Desktop Customization.
Workarounds:
A fix is available via IBM Update Connector and via the Aptiva eSupport Page.
Without the patch, the user can choose to turn off active desktop by either of two methods:
1. Right click on the desktop, then click on "Active Desktop" and uncheck "View as Web Page"
2. The user can turn off the icon animation by opening Aptiva Desktop Customization and unchecking Animate Icons. The Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 install should have already done this for the user.
Systems Affected:
2161 and 2162 All Models World Wide.
2140 and 2142 All Models World Wide.
Additional Notes:
Microsoft has included a work around for this issue in generic IE 4.0 code that disables animated icons on the desktop so that the end-user does not immediately see the issue after a download. However, because this is part of the IE 4.0 code, when a user with a customized CD installs IE 4.0, there animated icons will be turned off also. Because the CD has the fix in place for Aptiva Desktop Customization, when they re-enable the icon animation in Aptiva Desktop Customization it will work correctly.
