NOTE: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard drive. It will only extract under Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. The extraction process will NOT work with any other operating system.
Installation instructions
1. Boot the system to the Windows 95 desktop.
2. Extract the drivers onto the hard disk
3. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager
4. Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section in the Device Manager window by left-clicking on the plus sign (+) to the left of the Sound, video and game controllers item in the Device Manager list.
5. Double-click on the ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive item in the expanded Sound, video and game controllers list to bring up the Properties window for the ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive.
6. Select the Driver tab in the ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive Properties window and left-click on the Change Driver button.
7. Left-click the Have Disk button on the Select Device panel.
8. Type C:\DRIVERS\W95\AUDIO and click OK.
9. Click on the OK button in the Select Device window.
10. Selecting OK or Close in the remaining open windows of the System Properties panel will close those windows and complete installation of the new drivers.
Make sure that Use single mode DMA for the Audio Driver has been selected. The steps for making this setting are as follows.
1. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
2. Double-click on Multimedia
3. Click Advanced in the Multimedia Properties window
4. Go to Audio Devices in the list of Multimedia devices
5. Double-click Audio for ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive
6. Select Settings
7. Select Use single mode DMA and close all open windows by clicking OK or Close.
8. Restart Windows 95
