TP General - External PS/2 mouse is not working

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
Attaching an external PS/2 mouse to the ThinkPad and it either does not work at all or works erratically.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad attaching an external PS/2 mouse.

SOLUTION:
First thing to check is to make sure that the end of the mouse that attaches to the ThinkPad is an actual PS/2 connector. If you are using an adapter to convert a serial mouse or an AT mouse connector to a PS/2 connector, it will not work. If you are using a standard PS/2 mouse connector, then it is possible that you may need to disable the Trackpoint on the ThinkPad to get the mouse to work properly.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
To disable the Trackpoint for your ThinkPad, follow these instructions:

TP 770, 760, 765, 365X/XD, 380, 385, 600,560
1.) Open ThinkPad Features/Configuration.
2.) Click on the icon for the Trackpoint () and change it from Enable to Disable or Auto-Disable (the Auto-Disable is only available on some models).
3.) Exit Windows and restart your computer for the changes to take affect.

TP 355, 360, 750, 755
1.) Hold down the F1 key while your power on the ThinkPad.
2.) At the main EZSetup Screen, select Config, and then Keyboard. Next you will want to click on Disable for the Trackpoint.
3.) Click on Exit, then Exit again, and then Restart. Select OK and your computer will then restart.

TP 365C/CS/CD/CSD/E/ED
1.) Press CTRL+ALT+F11 at a DOS prompt to enter the Configuration screen.
2.) Towards the bottom right of the screen you will see a listing titled IPD and it says Enabled to the right of it. Use the down arrow key until this is highlighted and then press the space bar to change it to Disabled.
3.) Save the changes and then exit setup. You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

TP 701
1.) Press FN+F1 to enter the setup screen.
2.) Page down until you get to page 3 of 4.
3.) Use the down arrow key to move down until On is highlighted beside Trackpoint III. Use the left or right arrow keys to toggle it from On to either Off or Auto (Auto will automatically disable the Trackpoint if it senses an external mouse is attached to the ThinkPad).
4.) Press Esc to exit and say Yes when asked if you want to save the changes. You will need to restart the computer for the changes to take affect.
