General Product/System Description:

The 3447 is an automated tape library that can attach to a PC Server. It is supported by a variety of software applications. The 3447 tape library contains a Random Access Cartridge Loader (RACL) to mount cartridges to one or two tape drives. The RACL is designed to provide three operational modes: manual, autoloader, and random.

The 3447 tape library contains one or two DLT7000 tape drives that have a native data transfer rate of 5MB/second and a cartridge capacity of 35GB. They feature data compression hardware using an adaptation of IBM's Improved Data recording capability (IDRC) which provides an effective data rate of up to 10MB/second and a cartridge capacity of up to 70GB (with 2:1 compression) on DLT-format media. The 3447 features a 15-cartridge capacity, providing a total capacity of up to 1.05TB in the library. This includes a removable magazine capable of holding ten data cartridges.

Each library has a display on the front panel that is used for status and error codes. An operator control panel with LCD display is on the front of the machine and provides status information including tape capacity and menu options for ease of use. From the operator panel the operator can initiate actions such as moving and loading tape cartridges and invoking diagnostics. Control keys located above the display are used for selecting operating options. The 3447 has a see-through front door. A key lock provides front door locking and operator panel lockout capability for security. A bar code reader is included that allows for positive tape cartridge identification and inventory.

NOTE: Although the tape drive in the 3447 provides the capability for high tape performance, other components of the system may limit the actual performance achieved. Also, although the compression technology used in the tape drive can typically double the amount of data that can be stored on the media, the actual degree of compression achieved is highly sensitive to the characteristics of the data being compressed.

Operating and power controls, indicators and procedures:

Library Control Panel:

The 3447 control panel is located on the front of the library and has the following features:
- Control panel liquid crystal display (LCD)
- Control buttons
- Key lock

Power Switch:

The power switch is located on the rear left side of the library and enables power to the 3447.

Control Panel Liquid Crystal Display (LCD):

The control panel liquid crystal display (LCD) is the primary method of displaying information for the operator. It shows status information, menu options, and operator prompts. Error codes, library status, drive status, menu of options, and operator messages are shown in either off-line, diagnostic off-line, or on-line operational mode.

Control Buttons:

There are three control buttons above the control panel display. MENU (moves arrow up), CYCLE (move arrow down), and SELECT. Each control key performs a specific function, regardless of whether a user is changing modes, initiating an activity, running tests, or setting parameters.

Key Lock:

The front door key and lock are located on the front bezel. The key and lock are concealed by a hinged panel. The key lock has three positions: open and lock the front door, disable or enable the robotics, and disable or enable the operator panel. Library access can be prevented by the operator manually locking the door with the key lock or with a software-controlled lock from the host system.

DLT7000 Tape Drive:

The DLT7000 Tape Drive operator controls consist of the following:
- Unload Button: This button enables a tape cartridge to be ejected.
- Power on Light: This light comes on and stays on when power to the drive is turned on.

Status Lights:

There are three status lights located at the left side of the front of the drive to indicate tape drive operation or error status or a cleaning required condition.

There is also a beeper that indicates when it is safe to operate the cartridge insert/release handle.

Data Security Characteristics:

The 3447 uses the security and auditability features of the host system to which it is attached and its application programs. In addition, the library has a lockable door. Detailed operating instructions for the 3447 are contained in documentation shipped with the product.

Safety:

This product will be certified to the latest edition of these standards: UL 1950/CSA950/IEC950/EN60950. If the product includes a laser it will also be certified to IEC825/EN60825 and will be in compliance and registered with the branch of the FDA; (CDRH) Center for Devices of Radiological and Health.

These certifications will be attained through a CB accredited member such as, but not limited to, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Canadian Standards Association (CSA). A "CB" report will be provided and the product will be marked to reflect the appropriate certification status.
