Aptiva - Sound/Modem function problems after installing McAfee's Virus Scan software.
Applicable to: United States
McAfee for Windows 95 erases the "run=c:\mww\manager\mws.exe c:\mww\modem\mwmwin.exe" line from the win.ini file.
1. Go to Windows Explorer (START>PROGRAMS>WINDOWS EXPLORER).
2. Select "view" from menu bar and then select "details".
3. Select "view" again and select "options". Make sure there is check mark in 'all files" box and no check mark in 'hide MS-DOS extensions.....".
4. Scroll down until you find the windows folder. Double click on it to open.
5. Go to list of files on the right and scroll down until you find the "win.ini" file. Double click on it, this will open the file in notepad.
6. The "run" line normally follows the "load line".
7. Add or correct run line to read as follows:
"run=c:\mww\manager\mws.exe c:\mww\modem\mwmwin.exe"
8. Select "file" and "save".
9. Exit, restart computer. Check sound functions.
