MIDI port disabled in Setup Utility by default.

Detail:
This is the default setting which is used to free an additional IRQ. The MIDI port IRQ is only needed if there is a MIDI device connected to the MIDI port.

Answer / Workaround:
If the user needs to use the port, they need to go into the SetupUtility, and re-enable the port.

Plug-n-Play Operating System enabled will not allow parallel port to work in bidirectional mode.

Detail:
If Plug-n-Play Operating system is ENABLED in BIOS, the parallel port (LPT1) will not work in Bidirectional Mode.

Answer / Workaround:
No workaround known at this time.

Password with no bootup prompt causes trouble in Win95.

Detail:
Set a password in BIOS using Security Options and turned the Password Prompt option to off. System boots to windows at which point an error screen comes up saying that the there is no mouse installed (was detected in POST) and the keyboard is also not working.

Answer / Workaround:
This is the design of the "server mode" password. The point of the function is to allow the system to boot in a secure manner without being attended by an operator. It is correct that the mouse and keyboard won't work until after the password is entered. Even after entering the password, the mouse is not likely to work.

PnP Legacy Settings are forgotten after a Win95 boot.

Detail:
Plug N Play Legacy Resource settings are forgotten after a complete Windows 95 boot-shutdown. For example, I go into the config utility to the PnP settings and make 'Not Available' I/O address 220-240h and Memory C800-CBFF so my ISA 16/4 Token Ring card will work. On the boot after I change the settings, PnP moves the Crystal card to 240 and everything works. On subsequent reboots, the PnP legacy settings are all changed to 'Available', so the Token Ring driver conflicts with the Crystal card and I get a Windows 95 error. I can disable the PnP resources again on any startup, but they never last more than one boot into Windows 95. If I interrupt the Windows 95 boot sequence with control alt delete or boot to DOS, the PnP Legacy settings are correct on the next startup.

Answer / Workaround:
This is a function of Windows OSR2 and higher. Windows uses PnP BIOS calls to keep the BIOS' legacy resource information consistent with what Win95 believes is correct. Your approach should be to load Windows drivers in the OS. The driver should be smart enough to report the resources that the adapter uses (although I think the IBM T/R all-types driver only reports I/O). If you don't want to do this, you can reserve the appropriate resources in the Device Manager. In both cases, Windows should make the calls to BIOS and ask you to restart. BIOS has no control over this behavior of Windows. However, there is a way to reserve the same resources in Windows Device Manager. If you look at the "My Computer" resources (I/O, Memory, etc.) there is a tab for reserving the same resources you reserved in the Setup Utility. It's not a convenient workaround, but that's the best we can do.

Items are not correctly reported as being changed in setup after F5.

Detail:
After loading defaults from setup by pressing "F5 Load Factory Settings", items that have been changed are not correctly reported as changed.

If a menu is opened and an item has been changed, the '*' does not appear next to them until after that item has been selected once.

Answer / Workaround:
This item is deferred until the next program.

Setup does not report Cache Disabled.

Detail:
If you disable the L2 cache for the Pentium-II the cache will still show up in the system information in Setup. The computer does slow down when the cache is set to disabled so seems it is being disabled just not reported as such.

Answer / Workaround:
BIOS will report that the cache exists, but will turn it off when the cache is disabled.

No 5859 POST error on Defiant w/Sword Planar.

Detail:
When the ambilical is removed from a sword defiant, you get a 5962, but not a 5859 error.

Answer / Workaround:
It appears this same bug is in Stealth2 also. I would argue that it is acceptable to use 5962 instead of 5859 because the current architecture makes it very difficult to figure out whether the expected drive was previously in the media console.

Quantum 6+ GB does not default to LBA in setup.

Detail:
A Quantum Fireball 6.4GB and a Quantum Stratus 6.4GB (bigfoot drive) when set to CHS as their disk translation in setup do not change to LBA after changes are saved and the computer is rebooted. I did the same thing to an IBM 4.2GB drive and it changed to LBA as expected.

Answer / Workaround:
Hard drives >4.2GB and <7.9GB with 15 heads and 63 sectors and drives >7.9GB and <8.4GB with 16 heads and 63 sectors are now allowed to use either CHS or LBA.

No POST beep heard

Detail:
On boot, there is no POST beep heard.

Answer / Workaround:
The BIOS conforms to PC97 Standards in which a beep tone is only heard when there is a POST error (ONE beep rather than two).
