TITLE
IBM ThinkPad 770 -- Focusing on Power, Performance, Connectivity, and Configuration Flexibility
OVERVIEW
Experience the ultimate in mobile computing -- a high level of processing power in a sleek, compact notebook approximately 3.62kg or 7.9 pounds (3.4kg or 7.4 pounds without the FDD). The ThinkPad 770 (9549) model has an extra large 358.1mm (14.1-inch) TFT display. In addition, the ThinkPad 770 ( 9548) model has a .337.8mm (13.3-inch) (measured diagonally) TFT display with significantly improved brightness when compared to previous ThinkPads. Another benefit is the power of a fast mobile processor -- a 233MHz or 200MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology and 512KB of L2 cache, depending upon model.
Multimedia enabled...brilliant display, 3D graphics, high-impact SRS 3D audio, MMX, and Sound Blaster audio support. The new optional DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter provides full MPEG-2 multimedia and DVD (Digital Video Disc) drive support. These ThinkPad 770 models can support up to a 20X maximum variable speed CD-ROM drive.
ADDITIONAL STANDARD FEATURES
- Preinstalled Windows 95 with selected applications or Windows Workstation NT with advanced NT extensions, depending upon model
- UltraBay II with a new, easy-to-use, side loading tray
- A 5.1GB 4.0GB or 3.2GB hard disk drive (HDD) is standard, depending upon model
- 32MB of fast SDRAM memory is standard. The IBM ThinkPad 770 has been designed to recognize up to 256MB of addressable memory. Current available memory options allow memory expansion up to 160MB using two 64MB SDRAM SO DIMMs in the two available slots for memory expansion. Memory expansion beyond 160MB will depend on the availability of memory options larger than 64MB SDRAM SO DIMMs. Such availability cannot be guaranteed.
- Keyboard with larger built-in palm rest, when compared to previous ThinkPads, and IBM TrackPoint with enhanced features, such as Press-to-Select and Scroll-and-Select.
Also announced today is a new model of the ThinkPad 770 just for the IBM Business Partner - PC, Authorized Assembler Program (AAP). This new model is shipped without a hard disk drive or software preinstalled. A selection of hardware optional features and operating systems is available . Please refer to the Description section for additional information.
The IBM Business Partner - PC Authorized Assembler Program is a fulfilment initiative that supports IBM authorized business partner requirements to provide high-quality, customized solutions to customers. The program offers the qualified business partner the potential for greater inventory flexibility by performing final product assembly and testing of select IBM personal computers to specific customer orders closer to the time of distribution and end-user installation. WARRANTY SERVICE
Customer Carry-in Repair (CCR) or ThinkPad EasyServ: Warranty service for the ThinkPad 770 models will be provided by ThinkPad EasyServ or CCR to an authorized dealer/remarketer. ThinkPad EasyServ is a courier repair service in which the ThinkPad system will be picked up at the customer's location and delivered to a IBM-designated repair location. The repair location will repair the system and return it to the customer. Charges for the courier service will be paid by IBM.
If information on terms and conditions or warranty service is required, the customer should call the HelpCenter at 800-772-2227, in the U.S.A. The HelpCenter will assist the user with problem isolation for hardware. If a hardware problem is identified, the HelpCenter will arrange for a courier to pick up the system for overnight delivery (where available) to the repair location. Most repairs should be made the same day the system is received at the repair location (actual repair time may vary). Customers should keep the original shipping carton for shipping to the repair location. If the original shipping carton is not available, the courier will deliver a shipping carton and return to pick up the system for delivery to the repair location.
ThinkPad EasyServ is available in the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico.
INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY SERVICE
Customers who travel or need to move products to another country will be able to register the products for IBM International Warranty Service. Upon registering with the International Warranty Service Office (IWSO), IBM will issue an International Warranty Service Certificate that will be honored virtually worldwide, where IBM or IBM reseller sell and service IBM PC products. During the original warranty period, customers will be provided service through the service delivery methods available for their specific IBM system in the servicing country.
For more information on IBM International Warranty Service in the United States and Canada or to register your IBM PC systems, contact IBM at : 800-IWS-7426 (497-7426). Refer to IBM PC Co. Announcement PCC 94-516 or Services Announcement 694-028, dated October 17, 1994.
