Aptiva - 2158/2163/2164 Considerations - Noise heard during microphone setup
Applicable to: World-Wide
Description:
When the Microphone input is turned on or off a popping or clicking noise is sometimes heard.
ViaVoice, a speech recognition app, turns the mic-in on and off during registration. This noise is not loud and does not affect the correct operation of ViaVoice. Other apps, such as sound recorder also produce the noise.
Models affected:
2158, 2163, and 2164
How to duplicate:
a. Start Sound Recorder
b. Click on record button, click on stop button; Noise will be heard on one or both clicks.
Root cause:
This noise is caused by a DC transient in the audio subsystem when the Line-out path is enabled/disabled.
It is similar to the noise heard from speakers when they are powered up or down but not as loud.
Workaround:
This a sev 4 problem and it is felt that the customer will not perceive it to be a problem but rather normal
behavior for an audio system. There is no plan to provide a field update.
