IBM 3153 ASCII Terminal Display - Monitor mode (debug)

Applicable to: World-Wide

The 3153 Monitor Mode capability is a feature for programmers and application developers to debug application programs.

When the 3153 has 'Monitor Mode'='On', all ASCII Control Characters (ESC, HT, DLE, FF, LF, CR) are the display by the 3153. The ASCII Control Characters are not processed by the 3153. For example: When 3153 receives a Carriage Return (CR) character, the 3153 displays Carriage Return Character and does not execute a Carriage Return. Monitor Mode is used to determine the ASCII Control Characters being sent by the host operating system or application. Monitor Mode allows the 3153 to 'see' the IBM, DEC, WYSE Emulation Commands being sent by the host.

Configuring:
To enable 'Monitor Mode', enter 3153 setup menus. In the General (F2) setup menu, select 'Monitor Mode'='On'.

Advanced Debug Mode:
Programmers and application developers can attach a second 3153 to the first 3153, and combined with Monitor Mode,
perform advanced debug mode.

Main 3153:
1. Configured 'Monitor Mode'='Off' and
2. Configured for passthrough (transparent) mode.

Aux 3153:
1. Configured 'Monitor Mode'='On'

The Main 3153 displays the application and processes any keyboard inputs. As the Main 3153 recieves the commands to display the application, the Main 3153 simoultaneously is sending the data to the Aux 3153. The Aux 3153 displays displays the ASCII Control Characters.

In this Advanced Debug Mode configuration, the programmer or application developer can:

Notes:
1. Recommend persons have programming information on the 3153:

2. Refer to the programmers manuals on how to get the Main 3153 into passthrough (transparent print) mode.
