Aptiva - Why does Paintbrush start with a black and white palette or errors?
Applicable to: United States
This article details a solution if you have any of the following problems with Paintbrush:
1. Paintbrush starts with a black and white palette rather than a color palette,
2. You receive the error message "Insufficient memory to display image. Close one or more Windows applications to increase available memory and try again."
or
3. You receive the message "Insufficient disk space to edit image; delete one or more files from drive C and try again."
There is another possible reason for this message rather than needing to delete files on your fixed disk or closing other applications. If the image size in Paintbrush is set too large, you will sometimes receive this message when trying to start Paintbrush. This may also cause Paintbrush to start with a monochrome palette rather than a color palette.
To check this, please follow these steps:
1. Start Windows and start Paintbrush.
2. When you receive the error message, click once on OK.
3. Select Options from the menu bar and select Image Attributes.
4. Click once on the Default button to return the image size to the default settings.
5. Click once on OK.
6. Exit Paintbrush to save the settings.
7. Start Paintbrush again and there should no longer be an error message. There should also be a color palette displayed at the bottom of the Paintbrush window.
