Aptiva - 2139/2153 Yamaha MIDI drivers will not reinstall

This problem may occur after installing the LT518.EXE drivers for the modem. The Yamaha drivers refuse to reinstall unless the previous installation is uninstalled. You may see an error which complains of a missing LOG file in the Windows directory.

The following is the information from the Yamaha help file for dealing with uninstall failures:

It is not possible to determine the point to which uninstallation was carried out. Please perform the following deletions.

1. Choose Start -> Find -> Files or folders.
2. Type system.ini then press [Enter].
3. When the search result returns system.ini, press [Enter]. (The system.ini file will appear in the Notepad.)
- In the [386Enh] section, delete the comment for device=vswp.vxd
- In the [drivers] section, delete the comments for
MIDI#sxgb.drv
wave#=sxgb.drv
mixer#sxgb.drv
(# is a numeral, which will differ depending on your computer)
4. Save the file by clicking File -> Save, then exit Notepad.
5. Exit Find.
6. Choose Start -> Shutdown -> Restart the computer.
7. Choose Start -> Search -> Files or folders.
8. Type sxg*.* then press [Enter].
9. From the search results, select the following six files, and right-click with the mouse and choose <Delete>.
sxgb.drv
sxg05mx1.dll
sxg05mx3.dll
sxgbcpl.cpl
sxgbsys.dll
sxgwave2.tbl
10. Type mmx*.* then press [Enter].
11. From the search results, select the following two files, and right-click with the mouse and choose <Delete>.
mmxswp00.dll
mmx32x00.dll
12. Type vswp.vxd and [Enter].
13. From the search results, select the vswp.vxd file, and right-click with the mouse and choose <Delete>.
14. Exit Find.
15. Right click on Start then click on Explore.
16. Delete the YAMAHA folder in C:\, and exit the Explorer.
17. Choose Start -> Settings -> Taskbar.
18. Select the Start Menu Programs tab, click Remove.
19. Select YAMAHA Soft Synthesizer S-YXG50, click Remove, click Close, then click OK.
