Aptiva - 2153/2163/2164 - Pentium III or Celeron seen as Pentium II by Windows 98
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
When you view the General tab of the System tool in Control Panel, your Intel Pentium III or Celeron central processing unit (CPU) may be listed as an Intel Pentium II CPU.
Cause:
This issue occurs because Windows 95 and Windows 98 are not able to correctly identify an Intel Pentium III or Celeron CPU.
Resolution:
To work around this issue, identify your CPU in the system BIOS. BIOS is accessible by rebooting the system and pressing F1 when the Aptiva splash screen is shown. The first selection in the BIOS is System Information. Press "Enter", and the correct processor information is shown.
