TP 365C/CD/CS/CSD/E/ED - LCD timeout fails

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
Setting the LCD timer on the 365C/CD/E/ED in the Power Management setup screen (Fn + F11) does not properly blank the LCD. The LCD will blank after the specified time, but will resume on its own in response to Windows 95 battery status calls. The cycle of screen ON for the timeout interval and BLANK for a few seconds will continue until the standby or suspend timer elapses or there is system activity.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 365 C/CD/CS/CSD/E/ED running Windows 95 with the LCD timer set to shorter interval than the suspend or standby timer.

SOLUTION:
Windows 95 polls the APM system of the Thinkpad for current battery status. This causes the screen to resume on this model, it does not, however interfere with the APM timers (suspend, standby, HDD, etc.). There are two ways to avoid this issue, depending on your preference.

1) In Device Manager - System Devices - Advanced Power Management you can disable the "Power Status Polling" box to eliminate the problem. This will cause the battery gauge on the taskbar (if configured) to be unavailable. Battery status
will still be available via Fn + F2.

2) Set the power management timer to place the system in standby mode at the interval the user requires. The system will still be available for use more quickly than if it is in suspend (via any mouse movement or keyboard activity).
