LIMITATIONS:
OTHER OS/2 LIMITATIONS
Video for Windows movie playback with hardware acceleration is not supported in WIN-OS/2.
In OS/2, hibernation is not supported when the drive is formatted by HPFS on a system that has more than 64MB of memory.
OS/2 Digital Video Player may fail to play some AVI-format video files.
The OS/2 Warp FixPak XR0W009 is required for audio and video support for Indeo**-format video file playback.
WINDOWS NT WORKSTATION LIMITATIONS
In Windows NT 3.51, hibernation is not supported when the drive is formatted by NTFS.
SUSPEND/RESUME LIMITATIONS
When using a PCMCIA modem, a fax or modem incoming call cannot be received during suspend mode. (PCMCIA Wake up on Ring indicate is not available in Windows 95 OSR2.)
The system will go to suspend even if any PCMCIA communication cards including the following are used (though they are prevented on some previous systems with PC Card Director on OSR1).
- IBM 3270 Emulation Credit Card Adapter
- IBM 5250 Emulation Credit Card Adapter
- IBM Token-Ring 16/4 Credit Card Adapter
- IBM Credit Card Adapter for Ethernet
When a PCI or ISA card is being used in SelectaDock I or II suspend/resume is not supported.
- During suspend mode, the maximum power output becomes 60 mA at 12 V. During suspend mode, PCMCIA cards cannot consume more than 60 mA at 12 V.
- Do not remove or install PC cards during suspend mode.
- If the system is suspended/resumed during the following oper-
ations, unpredictable results may occur. The application should
be closed before entering suspend or hibernation.
-- Audio record or playback
-- Video record or playback
-- Playback of MPEG file, AVI file, video CD, CD-i
-- Active communications (PCMCIA modem) in OS/2 application may
hang
-- DOS games
OTHER LIMITATIONS
Due to the way Windows 95 handles docking and un-docking, it is recommended that the user boot a system un-docked before hot/warm docking or hot/warm un-docking.
Remote IPL is not supported with ISA Ethernet Adapter 10 base 5/T (35G2799).
When using "Async/SDLC ISA Adapter" with PC5250+3270 Version 4.1 on Windows 3.1, if the I-frame length is set to 2057, it causes unexpected disconnection of the 3270 session.
When an external VGA (640 x 480) CRT is attached, the display setting in the ThinkPad setup features must be set to LCD or CRT, but not to both.
A video capture adapter that requires VGA pass-through (video passthrough, VESA bus) is not supported.
When SelectaDock Model I is being used with a SCSI driver installed, suspend/resume function and warm/hot docking are not supported. The exception is that Windows 95 supports warm/hot docking even when SCSI driver is installed.
Simultaneous use of IR and other timing-critical or computation intensive applications, such as communications and multimedia, is not recommended.
ESS audio device driver is not CID installable.
PCMCIA LIMITATIONS
IBM ATA flash memory and Intel flash memory cards are not supported in Windows 95 OSR2.
PCMCIA (2.0/2.1) cards are supported in the system or SelectaDock I/II for all operating systems.
IN OS/2, the Xircom Ethernet + 28.8kbps modem is not supported.
The ATA PCMCIA card is not supported when using Microsoft Windows NT.
PC card point enablers may write directly to the hardware, bypassing Socket and Card Services. Writing directly to the hardware may cause problems that cannot be anticipated. Also, point enablers may interfere with client device drivers that do communicate with Socket and Card Services. Additional customer testing in their specific environments is recommended.
When installing two Type II PCMCIA communications cards in the PCMCIA slot, there may be some cable interference that allows only one card to be used.
Before removing storage PCMCIA PC cards, such as hard disk, flash memory, or SRAM, the computer must be turned off
PCMCIA CARDBUS SUPPORT LIMITATIONS
These systems support CardBus(1) PC cards that draw a maximum of 2.64 watts (0.8 A at 3.3 V DC).
NOTE :(1)Presently available in DOS, Windows 3.1, and Windows 95.
WINDOWS 3.11 OR DOS:
CardBus PC Cards, PCMCIA 2.0 or 2.1 cards are supported in the system and docking stations.
WINDOWS 95 (MAY BE PRELOADED ON YOUR SYSTEM):
PCMCIA 2.0 or 2.1 cards are supported in the system and docking stations.
One (1) CardBus PC Card may be used in either system slot. Simultaneous use of two (2) CardBus PC Cards is not supported.
If a CardBus card is being used, no other PCMCIA card may be hot plugged.
CardBus PC Cards are not supported in any docking station.
A newly inserted CardBus PC Card may not be recognized correctly by Windows 95 (Windows 95 may mistake it for a previously installed CardBus PC card). If this happens, do the following:
- Open My Computer, Control Panel, and then System folder.
- Click on the Device Manager Tab
- Select the device that is no longer being used
- Remove it
- Restart the system
WINDOWS NT OR OS/2
PCMCIA 2.0 or 2.1 cards are supported in the system and docking stations.
CardBus PC Cards are not supported in the system or any docking station.
OTHER TIPS AND HINTS
To support suspend/resume using Dock II, the SCSI IRQ should be set manually, by using the SCSI option ROM utility, so that it does not conflict with other device resources.
To install OS/2 (OS/2 for Windows or OS/2 Warp) on the system from CD-ROM versions, the external FDD enclosure (66G3618) is required.
When an internal CD-ROM drive is used in the system and the use of the diskette drive is also desired, the external FDD enclosure option (66G3618) must be used.
Video performance will be reduced when operating under the 64K or 16M color mode.
Continuous use of the HDD or CD-ROM drive, such as reading long video files, will impact battery life. In the ThinkPad 760XDTOP, the use of the enhanced video function will also impact battery
life.
The system is designed so that the customer can install or remove the PCMCIA card without turning off the system, if the PCMCIA card supports this function. Refer to the instructions that come with the PCMCIA card.
