How to create an icon/shortcut on desktop or in folder

If you believe you have erased an Icon:

1. Check "recycle bin" for icon first. If it is there, click and hold left mouse button down and drag it to open desktop area and then let go. If it is not there, continue to the next section.

If you want to create an ICON/shortcut in an existing Desktop folder, open that folder first.

1. Click on an open area of your desktop or the open folder, with your right mouse button.
2. Select New and then Shortcut from the pop-up menu.
3. This will bring up the "Create Shortcut Window".
4. If you know the path and the name of the executable file (usually a file with .EXE extension), type the path and file name in the "command line:" box.
X:\PATH\FILE NAME
where:
X = drive letter where application resides
path = directory name
file name = name.EXE (.EXE in most cases)
5. If you do not know the path and file name, select "browse".
6. This will bring up the browse window. It contains a "Look in" box, a "Programs" statement in the "Files of type" box, a "File Name" box, and all of the directories/folders on your hard drive in the large window. Scan the folders/directories for the directory you want and double click on that folder.
7. This will display all of the executable/program files in that directory/folder. Select the file name/icon that you are looking for. Usually, the file name you are looking for will contain the name or a portion of the software application name and the icon will be similar to one on publications or disk/disks.

NOTE: If you are completely unsure and there are multiple executable files with icons, you may have to experiment until you get the right one. You can always delete it by clicking once with the right mouse button and selecting "delete" from the pop-up menu.

8. Highlight/click once with left button on the icon/file you want and select Open.
9. Select "Next". This will bring up the title menu with the name of the selected file in the name box. It is recommended that this name be changed to a more recognizable name for the software application.
10. Once the correct name has been inserted, select "Finish".
11. Execute application to verify it works.
