Aptiva - How to set fonts to "Normal"

Applicable to: World-Wide

To set fonts to normal in OS/2:
1. From the OS/2 desktop, double-click on icons for "OS/2 System", "System Setup", and "Font Palette".

2. At the "Font Palette" window, you will find a selection of font styles and sizes with an edit option. The default font is "8 Helv" To return the system font to the default setting, press the "Alt" key on the keyboard and with the right mouse button, drag the "8 Helv" to the desktop or to another window.

3. After dragging it to its destination location, release the right mouse button, then release the "Alt" key.

4. If you wish to change to the default font for the window title bars, select one of the fonts to edit, then click on the "Edit Font" button in the "Font Palette" window.

5. In the "Edit Fonts" window, click on the "down" arrow at the right side of the "Name" text box. Click on "System Proportional".

6. Click on the down arrow at the right side of the "Style" text box. Click on "Normal" at the bottom.

7. Click on the menu button at the top-left of the window. Click on "Close".

8. Press the "Alt" key on the keyboard and right-mouse drag the "10 Proportional" text to any title bar.

9. Release the mouse button and then the "Alt" key. Close the open windows.

To set fonts to normal in Windows 3.1:
1. From Program Manager, click on "File" -> "Run".

2. Type "win.ini" and press the "Enter" key.

3. The text of the win.ini file is then opened in Notepad. The cursor should be blinking at the top of the file on the (windows) heading. Press the "End" key to go the end of the line, then press the "Enter" key to create a blank line.

4. In the new blank line type "SystemFont=vgasys.fon". None of this is case-sensitive. This will set the default font for the menus, title bars, and dialog boxes.

5. Press the "Page Down" key and place the cursor at the end of the (desktop) line. Press "Enter" to create a blank line.

6. Type "IconTitleFaceName=ms sans serif" and press the "Enter" key.

7. On this blank line, type "IconTitleSize=8". These lines set the default font and font size for the icon titles.

8. Click on "File" -> "Save". Close the open windows and reboot for changes to take effect.

To set fonts to normal in Windows 95 or 98:
1. From Windows 95 or 98 desktop, click "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel", then double-click on the "Display" icon.

2. Select the "Appearance" tab. Under the "Scheme" option, click on the "down" arrow at the right of the text box and select "Windows Standard (Large)". This will return the system to the default fonts and color scheme. If you wish to then change particular fonts, select "Item", then the choose the item and the corresponding desired font and size.

3. Click "OK" and close the open windows.
