Planning Information

Cables Orders: All cables are included with the system.

Installability: This ThinkPad family of systems requires approximately 20 minutes for installation. Installation includes unpacking, settingup, and powering on the system. Additional time is required to install other memory and other optional features.

Security, Auditability and Control
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and implementa tion of security features, administrative procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.

Standard Security Features
- Electronic Personalization
- Passwords

A Power-on Password (POP) protects the system from unauthorized use. If a POP is set, the password prompt appears:
- Each time the system is turned on
- When the system is returned to normal operation from suspend mode

A Setup Password provides a higher level of security than the POP. The Password protects the system functions from being used by unauthorized users and protects the hardware configuration from unauthorized modification. The Password prompt appears when the hardware configuration is changed.

Optional Security Features
The user can attach a Kensington Lock to the keyhole on the back of the computer. This allows the system to be leashed to any convenient fixed point. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.

IBM ThinkPad 310/315D Compatibility

EMEA
IBM ThinkPad 310/310D Compatibility:

Tests are run on a large number of commonly used and available hardware options for compatibility with its ThinkPad systems, using supported operating systems and configurations. In general, the user can expect that most IBM and vendor hardware options designed to run with supported operating systems, Intel-compatible system architectures and supported standard I/O interfaces to be compatible with the ThinkPad system. Some configurations, however, may not be compatible.

IBM does not warrant or support vendor hardware options, nor guarantee compatibility of those products with IBM systems. Please refer to the applicable warranty and service terms provided by the respective vendors.

For existing IBM hardware options that can be used by the ThinkPad 310 family, please refer to the latest Options By IBM (OBI) catalog and Website, as well as to the IBM sales configurator.

The ThinkPad entry systems support the attachment of external keyboards. In particular, the IBM Enhanced Keyboard with PS/2 Style Cable (PN 92G7453 FN 2289) and the IBM ThinkPad Space Saver Keyboard

AC Adapter
The AC adapter is an alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) converter to supply the necessary power to the computer. The AC adapter also charges the battery pack when it is installed in the computer.

PC Cards which do not support the power management function may cause the shorter battery operation hours.

Battery Packs
The battery pack is an internal power source to the computer when the AC adapter is not available. The battery pack is rechargeable and is charged within the system unit when attached to the AC adapter, either when the system is operating or switched off. Approximate standard battery operation hours and charging hours are:

NiMH Battery
- Power off/suspend charging 2.0 hrs
- Charging during operation (1) 3.5-10 hrs
- Battery Operation (2) 3.0-3.5 hrs
- tsize=5 termhi=0 c.

Notes
(1) Recharge times may vary
(2): Results based on BAPCo's (Business Applications Performance Corporation) SYSmark benchmark test. Battery life will vary based on many factors including screen brightness, applications, features, battery conditioning, power management and other customer preferences.
