TP 770Z - Considerations for Windows 98
Applicable to: World-Wide
Below is a list of considerations when running Windows 98 on your ThinkPad
- Studio Recording Session v.1.10.1 causes a General Protection Fault with the MIDI-Thru feature. Studio Recording Session v.1.10 and MIDI Express 3.01 do not experience this symptom.
- Studio Recording Session v.1.10.1 takes a long time (over 2 minutes) to resume when the system is suspended while recording music from an external MIDI keyboard. Studio Recording Session v.1.10 and Cakewalk Express do not experience this symptom.
- System hangs when only the Crystal ISA Codec is disabled in Device Manager. All the audio devices must be disabled at once through Device Manager. (98)
- A howling sound occurs when DVDExpress is enabled in Karaoke mode and attempting to use the internal microphone. To prevent this symptom from occurring, use an external microphone.
- DVD movie is automatically rewound to the beginning when toggling the display between LCD or CRT, or when changing the screen expansion setting. To prevent this symptom from occurring, do not change the display settings during playback of a DVD movie. This is a certification requirement by Macrovision.
- PAL MPEG2 files become jerky when being played for the second time in auto-repeat mode. To prevent this symptom from occurring, do not use the auto-repeat mode.
- DVDExpress gives the following error: "Error reading CD-ROM in Drive D: Please insert CD-ROM with serial number xxxx-xxx in Drive D: If the CD-ROM is still in the drive, it may require cleaning. Press Enter for OK or ESC to cancel" when the following operations listed below are performed. To recover from this symptom, just press Enter to continue:
- Playback a Video CD or Karaoke CD.
- Pause it.
- Suspend and then resume the system.
- The Autorun feature does not work (only the first time) when the DVDExpress application is launched.
- Screen noise appears during playback on a MPEG movie using ActiveMovie under the following conditions: Playback of MPEG file -> Maximize screen -> Pause -> Hibernate -> Resume. To recover from this symptom, close and then restart ActiveMovie.
- New version of MediaPlayer gives an error when a MPEG2 file is opened. To prevent this symptom from occurring, use MediaPlayer version 4.00.
- IVP (Intel Video Phone) cannot find the capture device after changing some settings within NetMeeting (i.e. changing the send image size from small to large). To recover from this symptom, close the application and restart Windows 98.
- DVD movies and MPEG2 files cannot be played back with 32bit color mode enable on the SXGA LCD displays. To recover from this symptom, set the color depth to some other setting.
- DVD titles are not played back smoothly enough with software MPEG support when Sub Title is enabled in 64K color mode during full screen playback. To prevent this from occurring, using a lower color depth.
- A pink window appears intermittently during playback of video CD's and when jumping from track to track quickly numerous times. To recover from this symptom, either move the window, resize the window, or jump to another track.
- Screen blacks out during new hardware configuration when the unit is first attached to the SelectaBase PC Card Enabler (with Advanced EtherJet feature) or SelectaDock III. To recover from this scenario, restart the system.
- Video from NetMeeting or Intel Video Phone is blacked out after the LCD times out screen off. To recover from this symptom, close and then restart the system.
