Aptiva - Unable to update drivers for Lucent Winmodem
Applicable to: World-Wide
Situation:
You have applied updated Lucent modem drivers, but the system is still using the old drivers.
Solution:
Remove the following files from the \Windows directory, if they are present:
Lt1644.inf
Ltadf.inf
Ltadft.inf
Ltamodem.inf
Ltcom.vxd
Ltdf.inf
Ltdft.inf
Ltdsvd.dll
Ltmodem.inf
Ltmodem.sys
Ltmodem.vxd
Ltports.inf
Ltvcd.vxd
Ltwave.inf
If these files are not present in the \windows directory, check the directories listed in the PATH environment variable. You may get a listing of the PATH environment variable by typing the word 'path' at a command prompt.
The only places these files should be present is \windows\inf, \windows\system and \windows\options\cabs.
Explanation:
For various reasons, drivers may be placed on the system in a directory which is searched before \windows\system. These drivers are then improperly loaded, as the machine will simply load the first instance of the driver it finds. Removing the outdated drivers from the directories they were improperly placed in causes the updated drivers to be loaded.
