TP 600,770 - IBM TrackPoint will not work once the Microsoft Intellimouse has been installed

SYMPTOM:
After installing the Microsoft Intellimouse, the mouse buttons for the TrackPoint do not work. If the TrackPoint drivers are used, then the left and right buttons of the Intellimouse do not work.
CONFIGURATION:
Any IBM ThinkPad with the built-in TrackPoint with scroll button with a Microsoft Intellimouse attached externally.
SOLUTION:
The Intellimouse and the TrackPoint cannot be enable at the same time and have both of them function properly. To use the external Intellimouse, the TrackPoint on the ThinkPad must be disabled. To disable the TrackPoint, start the ThinkPad Configuration Program and click on the icon for the TrackPoint and select Disable or Auto-disable. By selecting Auto-disable the ThinkPad will automatically disable the TrackPoint when it detects that an external mouse is attached. After disabling the TrackPoint and properly installing the software support provided with the Intellimouse, the Intellimouse should function normally.
While the Microsoft Intellimouse driver may work with the TrackPoint when the external mouse is disconnected, all the features of the mouse may not be support (i.e. the scroll button). For this support, the Intellimouse drivers will need to be uninstalled and then reinstall the TrackPoint drivers. Note: the uninstall program for the Intellimouse may not completely remove all drivers and setting information in the registry. This would cause the TrackPoint not to function properly after running the uninstall of the Intellimouse drivers. If this is the case, then contact Microsoft for additional information on how to completely remove the Intellimouse drivers from the system.
