Aptiva - 2163/2164 Considerations - Can't power off immediately during POST
Applicable to: World-Wide
Description:
Can't power off immediately during post.
Models affected:
2163 and 2164
How to duplicate:
1. Power on system.
2. Press power button when IBM Aptiva logo prompt appears. It takes 4 seconds for system to power off.
Root cause:
This function is controlled by the PIIX4e chip. Due to the system initialization sequence, this parameter cannot be modified until after POST completes. The default state of this parameter in the chip is to set the power switch to "hold for >4 Sec" to power off the system.
Workaround:
There is a master power switch on the back of the chassis near the power cord.
