NASCAR, INDYCAR RACING, INDYCAR RACING II TIPS

1) Run FASTCFG from MSDOS mode.

2) Change to advanced audio and save the changes.

3) Install NASCAR or any of the other titles.

Note: When installing the software, do not run the automatic detection for the sound card. Run the manual install for the sound card. Select the SoundBlaster 8-bit stereo and choose an address of 220, IRQ 5, DMA 1. On the MIDI selection, choose general midi and set port to 330. Don't play any of the test sounds that are in there. Exit and then run the game.

Hints for Playing Under WARP on an M40.

- Use the -h option for high resolution graphics.
- Turn opponents strength down to 80% when playing for the first time, so you have a fighting chance of keeping up.
- On a M40 (Pentium 75mhz), turn off all graphics except texture mapping on the cars, skid marks and dirt/smoke. This makes it considerably better.
- Wait until tires warm up or you will skid out.
- Turn off car damage and yellow flags until you get good enough not to crash.
- Start off on short tracks so the opponents' cars won't run off too far and leave you driving alone.
- Use non-linear steering.
- Analog joystick works much better than gamepad or keyboard.

Warp Notes:
- If using the Warp joystick driver, make sure that the joystick has DIGITAL RESPONSE = OFF.
- It may take numerous tries to calibrate the joystick correctly after upgrading to Nascar 1.2.
- You may need to give this game an incorrect IRQ value for digital sound in order to make the joystick work well. (Under Warp--not in games mode.)
- Setup program does not run as well under Warp.

DOS GAMES AND EMS

Problem:
Trouble running Aces Over Europe and Pacific Strike on an M70 because they require EMS.

Solution:
1) Create a DOS GAME object using the Add A Game to the Desktop option.

2) Create a bootable diskette and copy CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT from the C: drive.

3) Edit CONFIG.SYS to enable the correct amount of RAM-EMS and the MWD drivers.

4) Edit AUTOEXEC.BAT to include MWD in the path and to execute the game.

5) Insert the diskette in Drive A: and select the DOS GAME object. The DOS GAME object will run.

6) Save OS/2, report the EMS error, and boot from the diskette.

7) When finished, exit from the game, remove the diskette, and press Ctrl-Alt-Delete. OS/2 will be restored.

HOW TO INSTALL "THE 11TH HOUR" GAME ON AN APTIVA Mxx MODEL

This applies to all Aptiva Mxx models using the Trident 9680 video chipset (excluding the Aptiva 2168 M91computer).

These instructions need to be followed in order, or the game may lock up your computer. If the computer locks up, turn the system off, wait ten seconds, and then turn it back on again.

1) Exit Windows and return to DOS. In Windows 95, select Shutdown and Restart Computer in MS-DOS mode.

2) Type FASTCFG and press Enter at the DOS prompt. Select the first option for Sound Blaster Pro support. Then, select OK and use the new settings each time you boot your system.

3) Install The 11th Hour by inserting the first CD into your CD-ROM drive. Go to the CD-ROM drive by typing D: at the DOS prompt (or substitute the correct drive letter if your CD-ROM drive is no longer drive D:). Type GO and press Enter to run the installation program. From here you can configure the sound options. Use Sound Blaster Pro (New Version) for MIDI sound and use Sound Blaster Pro for digital sound.

4) After the sound is configured, select Done. The game will run, but the color palette requires correction. Select Exit This Reality (bottom option) and return to DOS.

5) Type UVCONFIG and press Enter to run the video configuration program. The program has identified the wrong DAC for the video chipset, which causes the color palette problem. Change the DAC setting to Generic 24-bit DAC. Then, save the new configuration.

6) Type GO and press Enter to run The 11th Hour again. This time, the screen should be easy to read. Select Change Setup and use the following settings:

Quarter Screen Video
Require RETURN to disk swap - YES
Hardware Page Flipping - OFF
Select "Return to Welcome" and then "Exit This Reality." Then, type GO and press Enter to run the game again.

IBMFUNPAK GAME (RAPID ASSAULT) ON APTIVA W30

Problem:

Cannot load the game Rapid Assault on an Aptiva W30. It returns error messages: "invalid drive letter, insert CR-ROM in drive" and "command.com not found".

Solution:

1) In the Rapid Assault folder, open up the settings notebook for the game (i.e., click right-hand mouse button).
2) Select the settings tag. It shows: DOS fullscreen, DOS window, and DOS GAME. The DOS GAME radio button is unique to this environment and is currently set.
3) Select the DOS Fullscreen setting instead.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR JACK NICKLAUS GOLF - M40 et al

Problem:

Can't control the ball very well in Jack Nicklaus game.

Solution:

1) Edit C:\JNSE\README.BAT
2) Change the 4th line from: CD JNSE to CD DOS
3) Save the file.

To read the game instructions, execute the modified README.BAT.

For convenience, just drag a shadow of the README.BAT file to the Aptiva Entertainment folder in OS/2.
