Achiever 5000 - Re-installing the original software for systems with USR modem/Super Sound audio card

Question:
How do I reinstall the original software on my Ambra 5000 computer with a USRobotics modem and Super Sound, audio card?
Answer:
Follow the steps below.
*** ATTENTION ***
If you follow the steps below, you will lose all your data and program files. The hard drive will no longer contain any personal information. If you have important files you wish to keep, please save them before going any further.
For this operation you will need :
The Windows 95 start-up disk
The Windows 95 CD and the Certificate of Authenticity
The Super Sound 32 driver disk
The SIS Multimedia/IDE CD
Note: If your Windows 95 CD has CD SAMPLER on it you will need the updated drivers for the sound card and the modem, for more information on this please contact the Ambra Canada technical support line at 1-800-565-3344. Once these file have been obtained follow steps A, B, D and E. If your windows 95 CD does not have the CD SAMPLER on it, please follow steps A, B, C and E.
STEP A: To re-install Windows 95
- Insert the Windows 95 start-up disk and then start the computer.

- When at the A:\ prompt insert the Windows 95 CD.

- Type the word FDISK and press Enter.
-
- Choose option 3 and press Enter.
-
- Choose option 1, then press Enter.
-
- When you see the warning just press the Enter key.
-
- It will then ask you for the volume label, it should be written under where it says VOLUME LABEL.
-
- Enter the volume label and then press Enter.
-
- When it asks you if you are sure, press Y and then press Enter.
-
- Press the Escape key to continue.
-
- Choose option 1 and press Enter.
-
- From the second menu choose option 1 and then press Enter.
-
- When it asks you if you wish to use the maximum available space answer YES and press Enter.
-
- Restart the computer.
-
- At the A:\ prompt type "FORMAT C:" and press Enter.
-
- When asked for a volume label just press Enter.
-
- Then at the A:\ prompt type "D:" and press Enter.
-
- At the D:\ prompt type "SETUP" and press Enter.
-
- Press the Enter key to continue.
-
- At this point the mouse will work, you can then click on Continue.
-
- Click on YES to accept the software agreement.
-
- Click on NEXT to start collecting information about the hardware installed in your computer.
-
- Click on NEXT to install Windows 95 into the default directory.
-
- Click on NEXT for a typical installation.
-
- Enter the Certificate of Authenticity number found on the cover page of your Windows 95 guide.
-
- Then click on NEXT.
-
- Enter your Name and Company (company optional), then click on NEXT.
-
- Click on NEXT, Windows will then analyze your computer for the installed options.
-
- Click NEXT to install the most common components.
-
- Click on NO I DO NOT WANT A START-UP DISK, then click on NEXT.
-
- Click on NEXT to start copying the files to your hard drive.
-
- Remove the start-up disk from the A:\ drive.
-
- Click on FINISH to restart the computer.
-
- Click on OK when prompted to insert the Windows 95 CD.
-
- Click on CANCEL to continue.
-
- Click on the down arrow in the date and time properties to select the appropriate time zone.
-
- Click on CLOSE , then click on NEXT.
-
- Click on CANCEL in the ADD PRINTER WIZARD. You will install your printer with the disks it came with.
-
- Click on OK to restart the computer.
-
STEP B: Re-installing the sound
- When Windows restarts , click on START, SETTINGS and CONTROL PANEL.
-
- Click on the DEVICE MANAGER tab.
-
- Double click on the SOUND VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS option.
-
- Click on the first Item under that option and then click on REMOVE.
-
- Click on OK to remove the device.
-
- Do the same thing with all of the other items under the SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS option.
-
- When you are done, you should no longer see the SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS option.
-
- Click on the REFRESH button.
-
- At the next window, make sure that "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" is selected.
-
- Insert the disk labeled SUPER SOUND 32 and click on OK.
-
- Click on OK again.
-
- Windows will then copy the files and install the software.
-
- When done click on CLOSE.
-
- Click on START, SHUTDOWN, RESTART THE COMPUTER, then click YES.
-
- When Windows restarts, you should have sound.
-
- Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, DEVICE MANAGER.
-
- Double click on OTHER DEVICES, then click on the SPORTSTER 33.6 INTERNAL, then click on REMOVE then click on OK to remove the device.
-
- Click on CLOSE, then close the control panel.
-
- Click on START, SHUTDOWN and YES to shutdown the computer.

STEP C: Re-installing the USR modem
- Restart the computer and when you see Press DEL to enter SETUP at the bottom of the screen press the Delete key.
-
- At the menu highlight the INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS option and press Enter.
-
- There will be an option that will say ONBOARD SERIAL PORT 2.
-
- Highlight 2F8/IRQ3 next to that option.
-
- Press the PAGE UP key until you see DISABLED.
-
- Press the ESCAPE key.
-
- Highlight SAVE AND EXIT SETUP and press Enter.
-
- Then press Y and press Enter.
-
- The system will then restart.
-
- When windows finds the modem, choose SELECT FROM A LIST OF ALTERNATE DRIVERS.
-
- Click on OK.
-
- From the list of hardware choose MODEM.
-
- Click on OK.
-
- From the list of manufacturers select USROBOTICS INC.
-
- From the list of models select SPORTSTER 28800 INTERNAL.
-
- Click on OK.
-
- The modem is now installed.
-
STEP D: For the modem
- Restart the computer and when you see "Press DEL to enter SETUP" at the bottom of the screen press the Delete key.
-
- At the menu highlight the INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS option and press Enter.
-
- There will be an option that will say ONBOARD SERIAL PORT 2.

- Highlight 2F8/IRQ3 next to that option.
-
- Press the PAGE UP key until you see DISABLED.

- Press the ESCAPE key.

- Highlight SAVE AND EXIT SETUP and press Enter.

- Then press Y and press Enter.

- The system will then restart.

- When windows finds the modem, insert the USRobotics driver disk and click NEXT.

- When windows finds the driver for the SPORTSTER 33.6 INTERNAL click on FINISH.

- Click on Cancel at the next window.
-
- Click on START, SHUTDOWN, RESTART THE COMPUTER and YES.
-
- When the machine restarts, click on Finish, and now the modem is installed.

STEP E: Re-installing the video
- Insert the SIS MULTIMEDIA/IDE CD.
-
- In Windows right click the mouse in the middle of the screen on the background.
-
- Go to Properties, then click on SETTINGS.
-
- Then click on ADVANCED DISPLAY PROPERTIES or CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE.
-
- Next to adapter, click on CHANGE.
-
- Under SELECT DEVICE, click on HAVE DISK, then click on BROWSE.
-
- Select your CD ROM drive.
-
- Go to the MM folder, then go to the WIN95 folder.
-
- There should be a file highlighted on the left.
-
- Click on OK, then click on OK again.
-
- The SIS5596 driver should be highlighted.
-
- Click on OK.
-
- Windows will then copy the files to your hard drive.
-
- When done, click on CLOSE, then click on APPLY.
-
- Click on YES to restart the computer and the video is installed.
