Aptiva - 2161/2162 Statement regarding Receive Only Videophone
Applicable to: United States
The receive only videophone systems were created by IBM so that individuals could participate in video systems. Due to system requirements, these systems can only receive video. This was design so that the systems had software upgradeablility. Since this solution is software based, the software can be upgraded with future improvements. This allows the upgrading of the system's software.
In order to adequately create video, the customer's machine will need a dedicated hardware card and camera to create and send video messages. Due to the need of a camera and dedicated hardware card, these systems were designed with software and hardware flexibility. This allows the user to chose their camera and video card hardware . This also allows the user to get the most current hardware for their system when they decided that they want to create video to send to people. In addition, it allows the user to upgrade their software with the hardware to have better performance.
